Housing stock, investment and newly constructed housing in the Netherlands, 1980-2002
After the sharp increase in investments from 1997 onwards, 2002 saw a stabilisation. The number of newly constructed dwellings has remained steady at approximately 70,000 for years.

Developments in housing stock
The demand for housing is still rising steadily. The number of completed new dwellings has been steady in recent years, at more than 70,000. As at 31 December 2001, the total housing stock was 6.76 million dwellings, of which 4.75 million were single-family houses and 2.01 million flats.
Developments in investments
After a decline prior to 1984, the levels of investment in residential and non-residential building and civil and hydraulic engineering are rising again.
