Share of Trade, services and government (TSG) in employment and GDP

The Trade, services and government target sector has, since the start of the eighties, accounted for an ever-increasing proportion of employment and GDP (gross domestic product). In 1980, this target sector was responsible for 57.8% of GDP; this figure increased to 67.5% in 2002. Employment increased during that time by more than a third. The sector now accounts for almost three-quarters of the number of labour years. These increases have been mainly at the expense of agriculture and industry.

Technical note

The added value per sector is equal to the difference between production (basic prices) and intermediary use (purchase prices). The gross values are inclusive of depreciation.
National Accounts (explanatory note).
