Global land use
Global land use as a result of consumption in the Netherlands is primarily related to the use of wood and paper and products from agriculture and horticulture. The Netherlands produces only 5.5% of its own timber and wood products (see also Balance for timber and wood products), meaning that the majority of these products must be imported. Despite the intensive nature of Dutch agriculture, the country is self-sufficient for almost 20% of animal feed and for over 30% of other agricultural products. Approximately one-third of land used in the Netherlands is for the production of export goods.
