Emissions from road traffic in the Netherlands, 2002*
Most emissions from road traffic come from passenger cars. The main substances are carbon monoxide, VOC, nitrogen oxides, sulphur dioxide, carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide. Freight haulage emits most particulate matter.

Road traffic main source of emissions by traffic and transport
Road traffic is by far the largest source of emissions of most substances in the Traffic and transport target sector. An exception is sulphur dioxide. Both private cars and heavy goods vehicles make a significant contribution to emissions of nitrogen oxides. Passenger cars are the main source by far (50 to 75%) for all other substances.
