Run-off and drainage of pesticides in the Netherlands, 2000

Developments in the Netherlands
Drainage is primarily an issue in the coastal provinces, Flevoland and the Gelderland valley; run-off plays a part in the eastern and southern provinces. Although propachlor has the highest calculated run-off, it is officially accepted that its application in onion farming is indispensable. This substance will continue to account for a large proportion of run-off unless current policy changes. Drainage and run-off are both relatively high in the case of aldicarb. To achieve further reductions in the emissions of this substance to groundwater, its use is subject to restrictions.
