Radiation dose from emissions of radioactive substances to air by Dutch industry, 2000

Development
A phosphorus manufacturer in Zeeland, a steel plant and a transfer location for mineral sand in North Holland, as well as a cement works in South Limburg, dominated the picture in 2000. The influence of discharges by the nuclear industry is much smaller and cannot be seen on this map.
The dose received by the Dutch as a result of emissions to air by industry is limited at less than 2% of the annual dose. The situation in 2000 is not very different from the one in the previous survey year (1992) and is representative for the current situation.

Policy
If the dose generated by a specific company is more than 100 ?Sv a year, action is required (Radiation Protection Decree, 2001).
Relevance
Dutch policy in the area of the radiation protection is directed towards limiting additional radiation resulting from human activities and the associated risks, such as the development of tumours.
