The number of complaints about companies relating to, for example, noise, odour and dust nuisance in 2001.

Developments in environmental complaints about companies
The total number of recorded complaints caused by companies at the provincial level was 13,805. The number of complaints increased compared to 2000 (10,260 complaints). Most complaints relate to odour nuisance (67%), followed by complaints about noise nuisance (22%). These are environmental complaints about companies answerable to the provincial authorities in 2001.
Environmental complaints about sectors
In absolute terms, most complaints are caused by companies in the energy and waste management sectors. If the number of complaints per category is compared to the number of establishments in the individual categories, companies in the energy and food categories in particular cause many complaints, mainly about odour nuisance.
Relevance
Complaints about establishments are an indication that a company may have committed an infringement. In addition, complaints should be resolved and prevented.
