Installed combined heat and power capacity in the Netherlands, including district heating, 1998-2002

The installed heat and power capacity has hardly increased at all in recent years as a result the deregulation of the electricity market.

Developments in heat and power capacity

The deregulation of the electricity market has considerably reduced the profitability of the combined heat and power plants and therefore led to stagnation in the growth of heat/power capacity.

Technical note

The table is slightly different compared to previous years. The reason is that revised data are available providing a more accurate picture of the plants producing both heat and electricity. As a result, some plants are no longer included in total installed heat/power capacity.

The sectoral allocation is based on the location of the plants. Some of the plants are included in joint ventures of industrial companies and energy distribution companies and they have therefore been allocated to the latter.
