Net environmental costs paid by industry in the Netherlands, 1998-2001*
The primary metals industry and chemical industry have the highest net environmental costs in relative terms.

What are net environmental costs?
Net environmental costs are environmental costs plus the environmental levies, less environmental subsidies. Analysis of the net environmental costs as a percentage of the added value allows for a comparison of the net environmental costs in different industrial sectors.
Technical note
The figures relate to companies with ten or more employees in mining and quarrying, industry (with the exception of recycling industries) and public utilities.
