Land belonging to or managed by nature management organisations

The land owned or managed by the various nature management organisations is distributed throughout the country.

Trends

The map shows the location of the areas owned or managed by the major organisations and a number of smaller organisations that manage nature areas and open them to the public. The information on the smaller organisations is incomplete; for example, it does not include the Hoge Veluwe National Park or a number of areas belonging to or managed by drinking water supply companies.

Technical note

The map is a partly updated version of the map published in the "Nature Balance 1999" (Natuurbalans 1999). The information provided by the State Forest Service dates from July 2001, that from Natuurmonumenten (The Society for the Preservation of Nature Reserves in the Netherlands) from October 2001, and that from the 12 provincial Landschappen (Provincial Nature Conservation Societies) from between 1996 and 1999.

The list of local management bodies is particularly incomplete and is based on information provided by Singraven country estate (1997), Twickel country estate (1997), the Noord-Holland Water Supply Company (1999), the Amsterdam Municipal Water Supply Company (1999) and the Gooi Nature Reserve (1999).
