Belvedere: grants allocated

Projects are being carried out in a number of "Belvedere" areas to maintain and develop cultural/historical features.

Current situation

In 2000-200, grants were allocated in about half the "Belvedere" areas (areas of special cultural/historical significance). The Dutch government has a special grants programme to assist projects for preserving and developing cultural/historical features.

In the first round of grant allocation in 2000, 37 of the 179 projects applying were awarded a grant. A larger number received one in 2001 (48 of the 125 applying) due to the fact that they were better able to meet the requirements of the Belvedere policy programme. In 2001, more than EUR 5.8 million was available for Belvedere projects, EUR 2.3 million of which was actually allocated.

Policy objectives

Belvedere policy focuses on retaining the cultural/historical identity of the Belvedere areas when development takes place within them. The Belvedere grants programme is one of the instruments for doing so.
