Composition of the Industry target sector
The Industry target sector includes industrial and manufacturing companies included in the Standard Industrial Classification categories 15 through 36. The recycling industries (SIC 37) are part of the target sector Waste management companies. Unless stated otherwise, refineries are part of the Industry target sector.
Environmental pressure from the Industry target sector
Industry is a source of environmental pressure in a number of areas. Industry contributes to the consumption of natural resources, including fossil fuels and water for manufacturing purposes. It also emits large amounts of substances into the air as a result of burning fossil fuels and manufacturing processes. Furthermore, industry discharges large amounts of waste products and is a source of noise and odour nuisance.
