Guide to environmental pressure from Industry

The variety of production processes used in industry generate a wide range of emissions to air, water and soil. Industry is also a source of noise and odour nuisance and the manufacture of products also generates a large amount of waste. Furthermore, the sector uses natural resources for its processes and energy supply, including water and fossil fuels.

The Industry target sector includes industrial companies from the SIC categories 15 through 36. Recycling industries (SIC 37) are part of the target sector Waste management companies. Unless stated otherwise, refineries are part of the Industry target sector.
