Guidance Landscape types

Index section Landscapes types

Introduction

The landscapes of the Netherlands are very diverse, because humans have moulded the entire country for their purpose, thereby accentuating the natural conditions. The preservation of this diversity of landscapes and of landscape identity is one of the main aims of the Dutch government's policy on landscape. It is related to the nine landscape types distinguished in the Second Structure Plan for the Rural Areas in the Netherlands (2002).

Technical note

The main typology has been taken from the Dutch government's Memorandum on Landscape (Nota Landschap).
