Introduction
This chapter gives an overview of the biodiversity in the Netherlands and the changes involved. The focus is on the number of species in the Netherlands, the international significance of certain species, threats and recovery of species and the increase of exotics.
In addition this chapter deals with the trends in numbers of species of species protection plans and the Habitat- and Birds directives.
