Introduction

This section provides an overview of the developments per ecosystem. Distinction is made between dunes, heathland, bogs and swamps, forest, agricultural area, urban area, fresh water habitats, tidal waters and the North sea.

The criteria 'Nature value' or 'Natural Capital Index' (Natuurwaarde) provides a national overview of the changes in quality and area of different ecosystems in the past century.

The other presented indexes of species and groups of species do not take the change in area of ecosystems into account. They only indicate a change in population density of a specie or specie group per ecosystem.
