Introduction


Besides the intrinsic value of nature, she also has a high user value. The subsection Recreation provides information about the visits to nature, forest and recreation areas, the recreational use of large nature areas and the need for forest.

Another traditional and important user purpose of nature is forestry. The traditional use of forest and woodland for timber production is decreasing in significance. Government policy is for multifunctional forest management, with forest and woodland being used both for production and for recreation and nature conservation.

The fishing industry makes use of revenues out of nature. The revenue generated by the Dutch fishing industry is dependent on the type of catch and the waters where vessels operate. See also section D for information about species catches in the Waddenzee, Zeeuwse Delta and the North Sea.
