Introduction

Besides organisations whose members are usually only passively involved, there are also all sorts of nature conservation organisations that expect their members to play an active role. In some nature conservation organisations, volunteers are involved in some kind of fieldwork, for example landscape management, protection of meadow birds or nature surveys. The number of members of these organisations is increasing or is stable.
